birthday week(2)

Sister Ferrin and Sister DeVries
GUESS WHAT EVERYONE!! Sister Anderson turned 20 today!!!! :) It's really crazy because.. we both had the plan to not tell our companion that it was our birthday and just let it pass then I heard her say that she was 19 so then I asked her when she turned 20 knowing that it had to be soon because we came out March 2nd and she said "uh.. Monday" I was like "NO WAY! Mine is Tuesday!" Then we got so excited because now we are just celebrating it together!! I think Heavenly Father wanted that to happen! :) haha!

But, it has been a BLAST!! being with Sister Anderson! :) I love her so much! She is such a great missionary and we have just been tearing it up this week! Well.. the Lord has been blessing us actually because there is nothing we are doing but working hard :)

So this week was awesome!! I can't decide what awesome experience to share first!! :) so... I guess I will just go through the week! So we had Sister Saunders with us at the first of the week and that was a blast! She is an awesome missionary as well.  So it was so much fun to be able to be with her!

Alright so on Monday! we went and taught this lady named Aida! I don't know if you guys remember the Lucky Number 7 tracting experience but that is the lady! So we went to our appt. with her and she was so excited. We start off with a prayer and after the prayer, she says "Ahah. See my friend was already wrong. You already answered my question. Obviously, you believe in Christ, you ended your prayer in his name." Then we kept talking and we started to teach her the Restoration and every question that she had because of her friend was gone because of the Restoration, and even the mormon.org card that we gave her because it had different ethnicities on it. She texted us later after the lesson and we were just laughing about all the things her friend told her and she wasn't buying any of it because she was seeing that it was wrong. She is so cool!! So we give her a Book of Mormon and invited her to read it and she was so excited too. Then we go back again 2 days later (with Sister Anderson) and WOW is Aida solid!! She has had so many questions as she has studied through the years and she was flipping through the Book of Mormon and found scriptures that supported every question that she has had. Like; making sure the church she joined loved everyone and she found 2 Nephi 26:33 then baptisms for little children (Moroni 8) and the idea of the Godhead instead of the trinity (she has believed that they were all separate beings her whole life she says there is no evidence in the bible that supports the idea of the trinity, so we taught the Godhead and now her belief has a name) Life after death (countless scriptures) Baptism (Mormon) She is just AWESOME!!! Guys, we have the next General Relief Society President here. She is amazing!! And she asked us if her son could join in and so we taught Josh. He is equally as awesome. He felt like every question he has been pondering his whole life on religion is being answered. It really is so amazing... What was the coolest is me and Sister Anderson were praying really hard for a baptism date for them and April 15th just kept standing out and so we went with it. When we asked Aida to be baptized on that date she gasped. That is her father's death date. She feels like that would be very special and so she is praying about the date. :) She is soooooo awesome and so is her son! and next time her daughter is sitting in! We have found a family and I love them! :)

Next is Victoria! She was really sad to see Sister Ferrin go but something amazing happened. We had a potluck at church this week and Alex her husband and her older kids have not been interested in a long time but they came to church. When they all walked in I almost cried!! I was soo happy to see them all there. The Lord is definitely blessing this area! Also, Norma (our Peurto Rican lady) She came to church and she is Victoria's Mother in Law! so that was great!! :) It was so great to have her there!! We are truly building families in this area!! :) Miracles are happening!!

Sandra-- came for a church tour this week and it was amazing! We talked about every organization and what they do and she was so excited to hear about them all. It was great! Then we got to Family History room and she was so excited about it, we told her that we are huge on keeping records and she said well it's important to God. So important that he sent Nephi and his brothers back for the records! My jaw dropped! SHE GETS IT!! I love her! the sacrament room was amazing as well but my favorite was the baptismal font when she told us that she wants to get baptized!! It was amazing! She isn't ready to set a date yet but she wants to be baptized and that is huge!!! :)

Daniel Martenelli! wants to be baptized on March 25th!! He is so sweet! such a cute kid.  His mom is so happy!

This week has been amazing! We have prepared people for baptism and we have picked up 6 new investigators! It has been amazing! I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!

Well, I love you all and thank you for the birthday wishes!!

Sister DeVries

HELLO FAMILY!! This week was such a blast!! :) I love being a missionary!! How did I get so lucky? I feel like the sons of Mosiah.. I am so privileged to be able to serve God's children and bring them to repentance. :) I LOVE THIS!! :) And I am so grateful for Jesus Christ that I am able to be worthy enough to be doing this work. I am so grateful for this gospel.

Soo... I am sure you are all wondering about TRANSFERS! :) Sister Ferrin will be leaving and heading to Vermont :) Super exciting!! I have really enjoyed working with her and it will be great for her!! I am staying here in New Hartford and Sister Anderson will be joining me. Sister Anderson came out with me so that will be so exciting!! She also will be coming from GREENWICH!!!!!!! I am so excited to hear about all those amazing people that I love so dearly!! :) It will be great!

So this week was so great!! :) I hope that I can talk about it all.

PRINCE!! So Prince is just the sweetest thing that has ever walked!! :) He has really grasped repentance this week and was so sweet and praying in sacrament. I love Prince so much and I am so proud of the person he is becoming. He is so great!

Rylee! :) We had 2 amazing lessons with her this week!! She is so great and she is in Alma in the Book of Mormon so hopefully, she will know that it is true soon! I really enjoy teaching Rylee and I am excited to see where this gospel takes her in life! :) Also.. she was our Valentine! haha! We got to spend Valentines with her and with .....

Kevin! he is a recent convert and he made us a cherry pie for Valentines and then took us out to dinner another night this week! He is too sweet and he is going to be such an awesome Branch Pres. or Elders Quorum President sometime! He is just growing and growing!! :)

Norma. We had a great lesson with Norma. Sister Gamboa (our interrupter)was sick at the last minute! So we just went and prayed for the Gift of Tongues and the Interpretation of Tongues and man did it work.  I do NOT speak Spanish but I could understand a lot of what she was saying! It was a miracle and we had a great lesson with her! I love her so much and she is praying about a baptismal date! She knows that it is true! She just can't decide when!

So on Friday, we got Sister Saunders because her companion was going home so we are in a trio for the weekend and it was a blast!!! :) I love Sister Saunders she is such a great missionary and we have had lots of Tracting miracles where people have just let us right in it has been so fun!! :)

So because of President's day they had to send home the Returning Missionaries today and do the temple trip early! So all the departing missionaries were at church on Sunday! Half of the ward was missionaries it was really cool!!! :) The two sisters going home didn't want to just sit around for their last night as missionaries either so President arranged a way for them to come out and work with us for the night. I got to be with Sister Walker. :) I love Sister Walker and have been her STL the whole time I have been an STL and we were able to work together for her last night. It was definitely the highlight of my week. We worked so hard. I hope that I can go out on a spiritual stretcher the way I watched Sister Walker do last night. We were tracting and we knocked on the second door and we got let in! We start to teach this lady named Norma about the Restoration and we had just taught about Joseph Smith and were about to bring in the Book of Mormon when all the sudden Norma starts talking! :) She was a talker!! But such an awesome testimony! She started talking about how she loves to read the word of God and the only way that you can know that it is the Word of God is if you ask God. I was just thinking "SHE IS GOLDEN...and she will love the Book of Mormon.. but when can I cut in to tell her about it!" Then all the sudden midsentence Sister Walker says "Well. Norma! We have a book for you and your going to love it!" Then we started to testify  of the Book of Mormon and Norma said " I am going to read this and ask God if it is true" It was so awesome!! Sister Walker and I walked out of that lesson smiling from EAR to EAR!:) And we were soooo pumped!! We just gave eachother a huge hug right on this ladies driveway and then we walked away with our arms around eachother! We then tracted for over and hour longer and kept those same grins the whole time! :) We then went and taught Prince! It was great! :) Sister Walker told him that she was his age when she joined the church and he was so happy to hear that. They really bonded! :) It was such a great night!!
I feel so grateful that I had the opportunity to be with one of my role models on her last night as a missionary! It was such a blast! :) It made me really want to spend every night as a missionary like it is my last because we were so happy and I want that all the time! :)

I love you guys and I hope that you have a great week!!

Working Hard!!

Snow Beautiful in New York!

Really I'm just Fishing out here! :)

Last Monday's Fishing adventure was so great!! :) We had so much fun! Sister Ferrin caught the first fish and we as a group caught over 75 fish! :) CRAZY HUH!! We are having a Fish Fry soon. Which Fish Fry's are HUGE here!! :) We are super excited! :) It was so much fun!! I have missed fishing. I forgot how much I really enjoyed it!

Fishing Adventure!!

So this week we had to do an hour training for Zone Training Meeting, it was different because we have this new thing where all of the meeting is conducted by the Zone leaders and the Sister Training Leaders and President Rogers doesn't come to these meetings. MAN! We were so nervous but it was great and there is this quote that I really loved from the training it was -
The catch!

“None of us should be like the fisherman who thinks he has been fishing all day when in reality he has spent most of his time getting to and from the water, eating lunch, and fussing with his equipment. Fishing success is related to how long you have your line in the water, not to how long you are away from the apartment. Some fishermen are away from home for twelve hours and have their line in the water for ten hours. Other fishermen are away from home for twelve hours and have their line in the water for only two hours. This last type may wonder why they do not have the same success as others.
“The same principle applies to missionaries, whom the Master called ‘fishers of men.’ A missionary’s line should drop into the fishing water the moment he or she leaves the apartment”

So really I am just constantly fishing! But this really hit me and it was awesome we need to make sure that we are always doing what we need to and be anxiously engaged in doing the Lord's work. It really is his time that we are on. Even in our everyday "normal" lives. We are to always involve the Lord and be instruments in his hand. :) I love it!!

Anyways!! good stuff!! So it was a great week!!! It was pretty cold this week. I was always warm but we had extreme weather and church was only an hour because a huge storm came in! :) It was really fun! Lots of snow and freezing rain this week! Off to the investigators, though!

Sandra- is doing awesome! She is loving learning and last time she told us both individually that she loved us and gave us hugs! :) She is just the cutest! :) She is coming for a church tour this week! so pray that the weather is good!!!

Victoria- we had an awesome lesson with her this week about the temple and she is so excited about Family History it really brought her a lot of peace :) It was cool to see that Elijah's promise is real! :) I love it!! She also watched the "testimony of the Book of Mormon by Holland" she was so struck by it! It was really cool to watch the wheels turn and have her really realize that this is something big. It was cool. During church she also had all her kids say prayers during the sacrament passing. It has been awesome to watch her grow. She really gets it.

We were tracting one night and sometimes as a missionary you have hard days it just depends on what attitude you chose to have on whether or not it affects you. Well, we had knocked on a door that was my lucky number and I knew that the people were home and after 2 knocks no one came. Then Sister Ferrin starts to leave and say "they aren't going to answer" .. I then say "Nope. they are. It's my favorite number and I know they are here! They are going to open and we are going to go in and teach!" I knock one more time and guess what... She opens the door and lets us right in. We talked to her about faith in Christ and we have a return appointment on Tuesday! She was so ready and prepared and the Spirit was so strong Aida (the lady who opened) even commented on it! It was awesome!! :)

Rylee- She is so awesome! So Rylee was the girl who came to church last week by herself. We saw her this week and she is praying about baptism came to church again this week. I love her a lot! We just clicked!! She studied with the missionaries while she was in London for Theatre. She was going to college for that but she switched majors! She is awesome, though!!! More to come with her!! I love her a lot!! :)

Daniel came to church this week and was so happy!! His mom didn't make it but he did so his baptism should be coming up pretty soon!

We are seeing so many miracles here!! People are really being prepared! I wish I could tell you all of it but I am running out of time!!

I love you all!!

Sister DeVries

Four People!

I had a really awesome experience this week! With the new missionary schedule they are really stressing that we are out the door by 10 AM and there was a day that we had an early morning meeting and we still had to fit in studies and it was just a crazy busy day and we could have easily just made the excuse to not be out the door by 10. But we promised that we would do this when we accepted our call letter so we got out the door by 10 and our 10:00 appointment canceled and so we went to try a potential that we have had from the beginning of my time here in New Hartford. We found him my first night but haven't been able to see him since. But we tried him and on the way, I was kinda grumbling and just thinking "This person has never been here... I don't know what we are going to do anymore.." Then I had a thought pop into my head "claim". Then I thought about it and I realized Pres. Rogers always tells us that when we do what the Lord asks us to do we have claim to receive blessings. "I the Lord am bound when you do what I say." When I thought about that I just started praying asking for forgiveness for my negative thoughts and asked him to bless us. Told him about how hard it was to be obedient this morning but that we were going to do it and PHIL WAS THERE!!!!!!! It has been 10 weeks since we have seen this guy and he was solid. We got his number and he is going to come to the church with his family! His wife is interested as well! I know that the Lord is willing to bless us and give us our desires if we work for them by following his commandments!!

So I will just touch on a few highlights!!! Because I gotta get going! We are going fishing with the Elders and Bishop Bloss!!! But

We found 4 new investigators this week! :)

Victoria is still doing great! We had FHE with her family and the Malczyks this week it was great!! :)

Sandra is doing awesome as well! She loves the Savior so much and just wants to be able to relieve guilt from he past. Every time we come she says "Oh Hi Sisters!" then when we leave "God Bless you both" I love her so much!!

Daniel is doing well he is just the cutest little boy! :) We taught him the restoration this week!

JAMES!! We haven't seen him in a while but he is back!!! and man.. he is committed! I love James he has such a strong testimony of the scriptures already!!! :)

Norma! Oh, you gotta love her!! She gives us all her Spanish GOYA and lovin! She is the best! she loves learning and hates her church now haha!! :)

ZHANE is new!! She is so cute!! we tracted into her she is 19 and she knows that it is a sign that God sent us to her door! :) We love her!!

DORTHORIA AND HASHEEMAH!! I love them!!!!!! We tracted there door the first time and they were one of the not so interested but nice to let you back kinda vibe but man were we wrong!! They have been searching for this gospel! it was one of the coolest restoration lessons I have had! She was so happy! she said that she has studied with lots of churchs but ours feels the best!!! AWESOME HUH!!! It's true folks!!

Then Rylee!! I will tell you about her more next week but she is 19 she is going to Hamilton College and she just showed up to church yesterday on her own!! She is soooo cool!! :)

I wish I had more time but I don't!! I love you all!!! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!!!
