"Do you know Rainbow?"

This is "RAINBOW"!!!!
This week was sooo awesome!! We taught so many lessons and it was just a week full of joy! :) I am so grateful to be a missionary at this time and here in New York! So quick funny story! I sent you a picture of a man with a trumpet and guitar. This folks is Rainbow! He is the best! He comes and sings to us Amazing Grace and he comes and OYMs everyone with us! haha!! He is not all there anymore but we will start talking to someone about the gospel and then all the sudden you hear "SISTERS... AAAAHHHMMMAAZZZING GRRRAAAAACEE how sweet the SOOOUUUNDDD" *while strumming an out of tune guitar* Then you have to introduce this person you have stopped on the street to Rainbow :) Oh what a pleasure! :) I sure love Rainbow! It has been a blast to get to know him :)

Also... I got really sick last week. But I didn't want to tell you last Monday because I didn't want you to worry. But.. This week was amazing because I got to see how important it is to give your body the rest it needs. Sister Anderson was just the best, she helped out so much as well as the Roger's and Aida. They both diagnosed me and the Rogers brought me cough drops and medicine. I am so spoiled her in New Hartford. But I sure love them all! :)

This week!!! The people of New Hartford!

We are teaching this group of kids our age (Tyler, Courtney and Joe) they are really cool and Tyler is really trying to change his life. We found Tyler out on his porch drunk and we started talking to him. He definitely did not start taking the lessons for the right reasons. But he is so sincere and is reading The Book of Mormon pretty frequently, he is a really good guy and I am so glad that we had the courage and the faith to help him no matter what. It has shown me that you cannot judge a book by its cover and also it has made me so grateful that I grew up being taught morals and standards. It has been so cool to see Tyler see the joy in the gospel thought and bring all his friends! :)

Rylee! We keep having amazing lessons with her this week!! ah, it has been soooooooo cooll!!! So Rylee texted us asking if we could see her Tuesday.. we really wanted to but we were booked but then right before 6, the appointments fell through. so we were able to go and see Rylee. It was amazing!!! We drive to the church to meet there and we pull up and realize... we didn't plan for her. What are we teaching? So we say a prayer and we felt like we needed to watch a video and then we thought of Holland's testimony of the Book of Mormon. So then she pulls up and we all go into the Family History center. Then the magic happens. She LOVES family history and we were able to show her my family history and we talked about Baptisms for the Dead and she was so prepared to hear it. The spirit was definitely there and it made so much sense to her. Then we watched the video and she asked us some really deep questions that she has been wanting to be answered. It was amazing to see the spirit help us answer. They were things I don't think I could have answered at that moment or even now but the Spirit helped us answer. It was amazing! She is getting so close to baptism! :) I love her so much!!! And I am so grateful for the spirit!!

Sandra! She came to church again this week and loved it so much. She said she just keeps getting more and more defensive about the church because she knows we are doing something right. She said "If anyone says anything about it I am just going to punch them in the mouth" haha!! I started laughing and then assured her that isn't all that Christlike. She totally would never do it either. She puts her bugs from her house in jars and takes them outside!! haha! It was the cutest thing though! I love her so much and I am so excited to see her progress!!

Roger! He is doing so well with the word of wisdom! He has cut down so much! He is really motivated to change his life. It was so amazing to help him this week! He went to the 12 step class, he got a blessing! He really is getting ready! We are sooo proud of him! :)

Dave! On exchange this week I picked up a new investigator with Sister Thomas! It was sooo great!!! He is Jewish but was really interested in knowing if there was life after death. He was really excited to read the Book of Mormon. It was amazing to be with him!

The Benson family is doing really well too!! I was able to teach Josh on an exchange. It was good to meet with just him. He really opened up and it just helped me see that this whole family is going to have this gospel! This is soo exciting it is one of those things you dream about having on the mission. It definitely is a dream come true! I love this family so much!! :)

Also, Shamira! She is the cute little girl in this picture! I love her. Every time I walk down the street she comes running and gives me the biggest hugs! I would take her home in a heartbeat... I don't even know what I did to make her like me but she does and the only explanation I have is that we knew each other before:) She is the best!

I hope you guys have a great week!! I love you all!!

Sister DeVries

This week was so great!! Hopefully, I can get all the information out to you all!! :)

Roger is doing so well!! He is so excited for baptism and is progressing really well towards it! He is really getting excited to make this step in life. Roger loves church and the ward loves him!!

So on Tuesday, we dropped by Aida's to drop off Brownies. :) It was such a good decision. We heart attacked her door. :) and we brought the Brownies the next day. We were then able to see her. She is doing so well!!! :) She had EVERYTHING you can possibly think of keeping her from us this week. Her mother went into heart failure, her aunt passed away, one of her patients tried to commit suicide and contacted her right before church so she and the kids were late. Everything that could have happened has happened. It has been insane and yet she still wants to get baptized and she knows its true. I love this family so much. Josh wrote us a letter this week saying that he has been listening to all the lessons from the top of the stairs and he also is praying to know if it is true. Jaidan is doing well with her testimony and still reading and Gabe is doing so well. He is the cutest! I love Gabe he is such a cute kid!! This family is my favorite!! :)

Sandra came to church this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is doing so well!! :) She is really progressing and ahhh!! She loved church! I am so grateful for her testimony and how much it has grown!!

Martinelli's came to church this week!! That was a huge miracle!! It was so good to have them there and I think they really liked it!! I love this family a lot as well! :) Danny will be baptized soon!!

Rylee is doing well! I love her so much we had a really great lesson with her this week! I am so grateful for her! She is becoming such a great friend! :)

This area is just full of miracles everyone!! I wish I could explain more but I am so grateful for the opportunity to be working here in New Hartford with Sister Anderson. She is awesome. I love her so much and we have had a great time together and so many people are getting pretty prepared for baptism. It is awesome!! I love being a missionary!! Have a great week!!!! Love you all!!

Who needs Pinterest when you have the Grapevine!

So.. ever since I have been out here in New York I have not been able to use my good ol' friend Pinterest.. but I have become great at using the Grapevine! :) Whenever I have a question about something I just ask everyone I know when they don't want to talk about the gospel! :) haha! it's pretty fun but the best one was this!! Did y'all know that if you cook a bowl of water in the microwave for  5 minutes and then wipe down your microwave cleaning it takes like 2 seconds?? That's right I just saved 30 minutes of your life, slaving over the microwave!! it works!! :) You're welcome!!

Well enough of the silly! I love you all so much and am so excited to tell you about our week!! So last week we had Sister DeMille and Sister Redd staying with us from Sunday to Wednesday! It was a blast! Sister DeMille has been serving in Vestal and just went back so it was good to catch up on how people are doing and help her plan her days :) She is such a sweetheart! So.. Karen from Vestal I don't know if you guys remember her but she is doing so well she is working towards the temple and hopefully I can go with her :) It would be awesome!!

Anyway, on to New Hartford people! :)

So First off Roger! We had an awesome lesson with Roger about the Word of Wisdom. It was so powerful and we just asked him if he wanted to quit smoking and he said he was ready. So we started the 15 step program with him and it was the most powerful moment. We got to the step where you through away and break all your cigs and he actually rolls his own to save money so we told him to get rid of it however he needed to and so he burnt it in his fire!! It was so sweet!! The coolest part is we asked him how he felt as it was sitting there burning and he said "I feel free" Then the spirit set in and it was so strong he said he felt it. :) It was such a spiritually experience! I am so excited for Roger! He is progressing towards baptism so well!! :)

Then, Mike, He is trying to quit everything as well and he is progressing towards it! We are so proud of him! He really wants to  make big changes in his life. He loved the story from conference about making promises. The "can you keep your promise to not be mean to your sister for one day? How about 2? 3?" So that is what he is doing.. taking it one day at a time and trying to keep those promises! We are so proud of him.

So one of our cute little investigators is moving to Florida! It is so sad but it will be good for her hopefully she can go and start to progress there!

So, Greg passed away this week. He is the convert from Syracuse that I was able to teach and be there for his baptism. I love Greg so much. I know he is in a better place now and I know that he is happy. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to teach him and to help him grow and accept this gospel in this life :) I love him so much.

A cool thing happened last Monday! We went downtown to take pictures and we had this guy ask if he could take pictures for us and we were grateful he is from India and He wanted to learn about Christ!! It was soooo cool!!!!! We got to teach him this week and just taught him that there is a God who knows and loves you and we are really excited to meet with him soon and help him except even more! :)

We went to Clinton last night! I love that town it is adorable! But we met with Rylee. She is doing so well, she is just the cutest!! :)Everythingg is great here in New Hartford! I love being a missionary!! :)

Prince! Loved Elder Dube. He came his week for Stake Conference and Prince payed attention the whole time!! Man oh man do I love that kid. I feel like I am his mother sometimes though!! :)

STAKE CONFERENCE this week!! it was soooo great!!! :) Elder Dube of the 70 came. He is such a fun Christlike individual!! He committed each of us to set a time and a place to read the Book of Mormon daily!!! I know that we all need to do that!! I know that Pres. Monson gave his talk on the Book of Mormon for a reason and we need to heed his message. We each need to be reading The Book of Mormon daily, there is a power in that Book that can change us and bring us closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ. WE MUST read it DAILY! It is a message straight from God to do so, His prophets speak his words and they need us to read it everyday. I know that as I have been reading the Book of Mormon daily and doing more then just reading but truly studying I feel God's power so much more and I have seen myself change so much more. Every since I was 13 years old I have tried to read daily and I know the days that I don't I am so much more irratable and annoyed at everything. I owe everything I am today to my study of the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I am who I am because this gospel has changed me and is continuing to change me. I know that the Prophet is inspired by God and I promise that if you all read daily you will become the person that God designed you to be and that you will grow to have a more personal relationship with our Savior.

I love you all so much and I hope that you can continue to learn from the words that are spoken to us from our prophets.

Have a great week!

Sister DeVries

Going on 6 months in Utica!

I am staying for another transfer in Utica with Sister Anderson! We are so excited to be able to work together for one more and just work hard!

Sister Anderson and I are really similar.. we are practically the same person. Which can be a good and a bad thing but most the time it is always good. If it's bad it's because we are both trying to serve one another but we are both too independent to let someone do something for us! hahahahah!!! :) It is pretty darn funny!! :) I love her a lot, though!! She is just my best friend!! We have a blast together!!!

So this week was amazing!!! I am so excited to stay in New Hartford!!! I'll try and share all the miracles of this week!!

So Sandra! I love her so much! Sandra is progressing so well. We talked to her about Following the Prophet this week and then committed her to watch conference. She got on but couldn't exactly find it but then we got a call from her right before the Sunday session and she says "I watched some of Conference and I just have one thing I want to leave you with 'lean not' I love you Sisters"  It was the sweetest phone call I have ever heard in my life. She is such a sweetheart and she is so excited to get baptized. I am very excited to see where she goes from here! :)

Then we saw Bernice and Eloise, we picked them up one night tracting and Sister Anderson has gone back and saw them on exchanges but I haven't seen them since and I got to see them and they have been reading the Book of Mormon. They are the sweetest old ladies ever! We are excited to see where they go to! We are just working so hard here and teaching SO many people. The Lord is truly blessing us.

Then we had a lesson with Roger. He is on date to be baptized on May 6th and he is so excited. He came to the baptismal service of one of the elder's investigators and he told the Elders "I came because I am getting baptized soon too!" He is the sweetest man! He was asking us all about what he needs to do to prepare! We are so excited to help him make it!!

Then Danny. He is the 14-year-old boy. He is back on date and we are so excited to have him be baptized soon. His one obstacle is His mom, she sleeps in and doesn't bring him to church. It is soooo sad. He wants to be baptized soo bad and it's just not happening.

Then, Justin, he is a new investigator and when we taught him. He said the most humble prayer I have ever heard. He is so eager to learn and just wants to know all the truth that God sends to him.

RYLEE!!! Guess what everyone! She is back!!! I am so excited to start teaching Rylee again and getting her excited about this gospel! We had a great lesson this week about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and she loved it! I love Rylee... She is exactly like Ashley Sheets (but not Sheets anymore) I love it!! I just feel like I am talking with a friend whenever we teach her it is so much fun!!:) We got on a tangent at the end of the lesson about theater.. she loves it too so it was pretty fun! I love her! Anyways... she is doing great!!

Norma.. Oh how I love Norma.. we taught the Law of Chastity.. it went okay.. but then I asked if we could see her Monday and told her there was a possibility I was leaving and she said "NOOO...They can't take you. You're my Sister" (in her Peurto Rican accent.) I Love Norma so much!! She then gave me robin eggs and a bobble head. She is soo sweet. She was so excited when we told her I was staying she said "I been prayin Lord, and he keep you" :) She is the sweetest!! I love teaching her!!!

Victoria is back. She came to church this week to watch conference and she loved it!! It was so great to have her there!! I am excited to help her start progressing again!! :)

CONFERENCE!!! I loved General Conference so much and was able to receive answers to my questions. I realized that I need to rely on the Holy Ghost more... I need to sincerely listen when I say my prayers and realize that guidance is always there as long as I ask for it! It was great! :) I loved the talk by Elder Choi about Looking up!! :) and Hollands talk ! all of them really!! :) It was so great!! but one of my favorite parts was GENERAL CONFERENCE AT THE ROGERS with the Sevillas!! :) Little Gio and Dayanise and we played Conference bingo and it was so much fun and Sister Rogers bought them a tent so that they could watch inside it., It was a blast. :) We also had an easter egg hunt!! It was just a blast!! I really am so spoiled her...I can't believe I get to stay for one more!!

Then we went and watched conference with Prince. He was writing such good notes. We were pretty proud of him :) I love him a lot.

On Sunday we had Mike, Roger, and Victoria at the session with us. They all loved it. Mike was crying the whole time. It was so sweet. I am so proud of all the people here in New Hartford. They are all changing their lives so much. :)

Love you all!! have a great week!!!
